Navigating the Future of Search, Analytics, and AI
AI is leading the charge into the next generation of Search Engine Optimization. Today, succeeding online is no longer just about ranking a webpage on a screen; it is about ensuring your entire digital presence is structured to thrive in an era run by AI, automated workflows, and complex tracking systems.
After researching the new WebMCP protocol & how it will impact virtually everything Browsers & Search Engines do in the future, Bill put together some articles -- and it turned into a new blog: billshultz.com
Current articles as of May-June 2026:
- What is WebMCP?
- WebMCP Tools
- META Tags for Agents?
- WebMCP and GTM
- How to Deploy WebMCP Tools with GTM
- WebMCP Setup Context Tag
These first articles discuss how WebMCP may be big enough to take the title of SEO 3.0: META Tags was 1.0 (for bots), SCHEMA was 2.0 (for people), and WebMCP looks to be 3.0 (for AI agents). Some is just theories because it is still so new; but some is already here - impacting your current visibility as we speak.
Plus rolling out WebMCP with Google Tag Manager is something that can be done quickly without IT's help too --> it's just creating tags/triggers/variables to help Agents improve their understanding about your business and what actions the Agents can complete for you.
This is what we're experimenting with right now.
SEO tries to highlight what your business offers and guide customers toward the actions you want them to take (conversions/engagement etc..) with META Tags - Schema Markup - WebMCP Tools etc..
WebMCP is simply SEO evolving for AI Agents to do the same thing:
Highlight your business offerings and map out the exact actions you want AI Agents to take.
Couple this with more traditional SEO tactics like META tags/H1/2, SCHEMA Markup, creating/refining better content & continuously improving the technical aspects -- and your business will stay ahead of the game.
